Tramex CME4 Non Invasive Moisture Content Meter for Concrete

Tramex CME4 is a rugged, electronic, non-destructive moisture meter designed and calibrated specifically for measuring moisture in concrete as well as other floor slabs and screeds. Flooring, water restoration, indoor air quality, as well as inspection and surveying industries will find this an important tool to keep in their tool bag for detecting moisture content in concrete or other floor covering. The CME4 meets ASTM F2659 non-destructive standards.

Key Features

  • Non-destructive moisture readings for concrete and gypsum floor screeds
  • Performs test as per ASTM F2659
  • Measures up to 6% moisture content
  • Instant and precise readings to a depth of ¾” into the slab
  • Easy to read analog dial
  • Hold function to “freeze” the data
  • Spring-loaded contact pins compensate for uneven concrete and boost signal penetration

Product Overview

Why is it important to check the moisture content in concrete or other flooring slabs? Moisture in concrete floors slabs affects the performance of flooring systems such as resilient, wood, and textile floor coverings and coatings. Manufacturers of such systems generally require moisture testing be performed before the installation of coverings. Excessive moisture in floor slabs after installation can cause floor covering system failures such as delamination, bonding failure, deterioration of finished flooring and coatings, as well as microbial growth.

The Tramex CME4 provides instant readings up to 6% moisture content for concrete and has a comparative scale of 0-100 for gypsum floor screed. Moisture content is read on the clear, easy to read analog dial. In addition, when trying to get measurements in hard to reach areas the hold button can be used to freeze the data. The moisture meter is easy to use as well as accurate and allows technicians to quickly take multiple tests over a large areas in a short period of time.

The CME4 detects and evaluates the moisture conditions by measuring the electrical impedance. The instrument has two sets of spring loaded electrodes on the base that transmit and receive a low frequency signal through the material being tested. The strength of this signal varies in proportion to the amount of moisture present in the material. The current strength is then converted by the CME4 into a moisture content value for concrete and a comparative value for other cementitious floor screeds.

The moisture meter is easy to use. Moisture readings are obtained by firmly pressing the instrument on a clean surface to be tested making sure that the spring-loaded signal-enhancing electrodes are making complete contact with the floor. The moisture content is instantly displayed on the analog dial. The CME4 has a depth penetration of approximately ¾” on a clean, bare dust free concrete floor slab. Readings taken on a concrete slab through paint, coatings, adhesive or other materials on the surface should be regarded as qualitative or comparative and not quantitative.

Tramex CALCRH Calibration Check Plate can be used to verify the CME4 is performing within the tolerances for moisture measurements deemed acceptable by Tramex.

Tramex WDZK5.1 is a kit that includes both non-destructive moisture meters CME4 and MEP for testing moisture conditions is a variety of building materials.
