BI Communications TX4000 Handheld TDR Cable Fault Tester is an excellent tool for doing troubleshooting of damaged wiring.  The TX4000 detects cable faults and displays them, as graphs of various cable faults such as opens, shorts, splices, taps or even water ingress into a cable.  The maximum distance measured by TX4000 TDR is longer 13,000 ft. or 4000m.  Just like other graphical cable fault locators from BI Communications it comes with standard tone generator built in for cable identification.  The construction of TX4000 handheld TDR is ruggedized, and dust proof to IP54 standard.  The really important upgrade is an automatic fault location, so it shows consecutive faults to assure you can find all of them.  The variable gain control enables user to fine tune fault finding. BI Communications TX4000, just like any TDR measures length of the cable, as well as the distance to a fault.  You can use it to troubleshoot all metallic cables; however, you need to know that so called “twisted pair cables”, such as those used for data or telecom networks yield the most accurate results. Normally TDRs loose accuracy when it comes to fault finding in electrical cables, but this tools overcomes this obstacle, as it comes with a greater range of impedance from 25 to 100 ohms. BI Communications TX4000 is an ideal tool for finding faults in LAN cables and in telephone drop line running from a post to the home.  It also manages fault finding in CATV and electrical cables. The most important principle of using TDRs is to do the measurement from both ends of the cable, so you can increase the accuracy of your reading.  As always, look for some obvious signs, such as new construction in the vicinity, or trees, or anything else that could have caused damage to a cable.  TDR is a great tool and coupled with your observations and analytical mind will provide astonishing results. All TDR cable fault locator from BI Communications are made in England.
